Throughout its history, Berlin has often been the centre of the Universe. Each new period of its chequered past has added new layers of complexity and profoundness.

Once divided by the world’s most infamous wall, the Berlin of today is a melting pot of peoples and cultures from every corner of the planet - a triumphant testament to the city’s unique ability to overcome.

Despite being the capital of one of Europe’s richest countries, in Berlin, creativity, self-expression and culture are virtues cherished above all else. “Arm, aber sexy” (poor, but sexy), as one former mayor famously put it.

In the best possible way, its football culture mirrors the city itself: a rich patchwork of hundreds of mini-scenes and subcultures, fused together by a shared love of the game, the city, and the people they represent.

As Germany plays host to Euro 2024 and a glorious summer of football, the eyes of the world will once again look towards Berlin.

The Berlin Edition is a collaborative exhibition by The Culture Division, Gegenpresse and Fußball-Woche, that celebrates true Berlin football culture.

From the Bolzplatz to the Olympiastadion, our collection of essays, interviews, photography and artwork will explore all the elements that make Berlin's football landscape so beautifully unique.

Berliner Fußball-Woche lives and breathes football romance at its purest.

The print magazine from the German capital is one of the oldest football publications in Europe. Fußball-Woche has been reporting on football events in Berlin with match reports, analysis, interviews and features since 1923.

From top to bottom, from amateur to professional, from East to West. Every Monday, Fußball-Woche lands at Spätis and in shops across Berlin, packed with stories from the weekend’s games. And when we say packed, we mean packed. With over four million inhabitants, Berlin is home to more than 390 clubs and over 205,000 organised club members. Bringing together this melting pot of clubs, teams, athletes and fans into one medium is almost an impossible mission. But FuWo does it every week.

After 100 years of absolute dedication to the beautiful game, football maniacs and lovers of Berlin alike regard FuWo as the leading medium for football in the capital.

From the local neighbourhood club in Neukölln, to clubs of longstanding tradition such as Tennis Borussia or Tasmania, to the two giants: the old lady Hertha BSC and Union Berlin — FuWo is connected to the city’s clubs, personalities and fans like no other.

A century after its first issue, the weekly newspaper is currently reinventing itself. A growing digital presence, together with new features and the development of a comprehensive app, will make Fußball-Woche even more accessible to both new audiences and longtime readers.

Gegenpresse is an independent football and subculture magazine.

It covers lesser known topics within the broad scope of football. Within Gegen’s pages you’ll find stories you can always revisit years after its publish date, blending fashion, street culture, art and design into its own football melting pot - reminiscent of the city it hails from: Berlin.

As a magazine and a creative endeavour, Gegen focuses its interest on clubs, players and organisations within the game whose values match up with its own - separating itself from traditional football media.

Beyond the magazine, Gegenpresse hosts a Friday night football session at the Adidas Sports Base in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, where the growing GegenFC community meet weekly for friendly competition, good vibes and post-match beers. It is fast becoming a Berlin institution in its own right.
